While at Taronga zoo I tried ISO 3200 for the 1st time. I have used ISO 1600 before and was expecting 3200 to be very noisy. I was pleasantly suprised!! Here are some shots taken in the reptile display (indoors and very low light) with the 100-400mm hand held at ISO 3200 with the in camera high ISO noise reduction on. I have also selected the background areas and given it a hit with the Noise Ninja.

Brilliant Pete especially that last shot. I have never had much problem with high ISO as long as they are exposed correctly.
Underexposure brings out the grain something fierce. These are all nice shots that I would be very happy if they were my own. Good work.

Hi Alan, can't be to much longer before you head off to the Old Dart. Have a great trip and I look forward to seeing your pics when you get back.

hi John, I agree, I initially had some noise with the 40D but now I generally shoot at + 1/3 of a stop (as suggested by Ralph and John T) and haven't had to many problems with noise since.
