Blue moons are a fairly rare occurence. They occur when we have 2 full moons in the same month and the 2nd one falls on New Years Eve. The last one was 20 years ago and the next one won't occur until 2028. Therefore the saying 'it only happens once in a blue moon'. However, I used a little artistic license and actually gave the moon a blue tinge, otherwise, it would look like any other 'moon'. Taken with the 30D and 70-200 L with Ralph's 2x teleconverter. This shot was taken as the clouds were going across the moon. The second shot is a composite. The exposure was set for the clouds and of course the moon was very overexposed. I then took a shot exposed for the moon and used PS to add it in to the shot. I cut the overexposed moon out, leaving in some of the cloud that was in front of it, then slotted the new moon in behind it.

As long as you choose the correct aperture, it works a treat. Let me know when you want it back. I also decided to combine the blue moon and OOB just for fun.

Well hang on to it for a while John, I haven't used it much at all. Since I bought the 100-400mm Canon The 70-200 Sigme doesn't get much of a work out let alone putting the converter on it. Hey , maybe you want to buy it?

I believe the term Blue moon actually come from the original word belewe which mean believe or true or betrayer depending on the interpretation. Nothing to do with the actual colour. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_moonAndrew

Good to see you, John. Things (life) is getting better. I will retire the end of March, decided to take widow's benefits, travel, take pictures & play golf. I am looking forward to this new life of mine that will be and is different. However, there is lots to do & more folks to meet in this journey of life. Carolyn
